I received a beautiful prayer card from a gentleman in the Deacon Formation Program for the Archdioceses of Newark. I want to thank Brian for continuing to keep in contact as we share something in common. His class will be ordained (G-d willing) in 2011, with ours in 2012. Our classes could use your prayers! Thanks!
Isn’t this nice?

General: That Sunday may be lived as the day on which Christians gather to celebrate the risen Lord, participating in the Eucharist.
Mission: That the entire People of God, to whom Christ entrusted the mandate to go and preach the Gospel to every creature, may eagerly assume their own missionary responsibility and consider it the highest service they can offer humanity.
Please remember to keep the Holy Father’s intentions in your prayers..

General: That the word of God may be better known, welcomed and lived as the source of freedom and joy.
Mission: That Christians in Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar, who often meet with great difficulties, may not be discourage from announcing the Gospel to their brothers, trusting in the strength of the Holy Spirit.
Please consider praying for the Holy Father’s intentions.
Thank you.

Recently, I posted about a friend of mine, Deacon Pat and his posting concerning his brother’s recent diagnosis with throat cancer. The posting was titled “Prayer Request“‘.
I wanted to mention there is a new blog–his blog. This young man’s chronicle sharing with us, his fight to beat this cancer. Kevin can use all the prayers you can muster, and I’m sure he could use your encouragement too. So why don’t you stop on by and say, “hi”?
The title of the blog is “Kevin Beats Cancer“.
I will also have a link on my blogroll located on the sidebar.
Thanks, and God be with you!

Prayer for Priests
O Jesus, our great High Priest,
Hear my humble prayers on behalf of your priest, Father [N].
Give him a deep faith
a bright and firm hope
and a burning love
which will ever increase
in the course of his priestly life.
In his loneliness, comfort him
In his sorrows, strengthen him
In his frustrations, point out to him
that it is through suffering that the soul is purified,
and show him that he is needed by the Church,
he is needed by souls,
he is needed for the work of redemption.
O loving Mother Mary, Mother of Priests,
take to your heart your son who is close to you
because of his priestly ordination,
and because of the power which he has received
to carry on the work of Christ
in a world which needs him so much.
Be his comfort, be his joy, be his strength,
and especially help him
to live and to defend the ideals of consecrated celibacy. Amen.
John Joseph, Cardinal Carberry (+1998)
Archbishop of St. Louis 1968-1979

Just an update. I received word that the evaluation process was completed and recommendations have been made concerning who will be accepted into candidacy. It’s an important step for us as Aspirants and those tasked with the recommendations. It’s not an easy thing to discern and I certainly don’t envy them. One of the last sessions included us in the role of the evaluations committee. It was the most uncomfortable situation I’ve ever been in. I know my Brothers are as anxious as I and need all the love and support you can offer.
Please keep everyone involve in your prayers, but especially our Archbishop and his staff.
May Christ’s peace be with us all.

So much has happened since Easter. Let me start with our last formation weekend. We enjoyed two sessions from Deacon Owen Cummings. The Deacon gave a bang up job on 2 lectures being “Faith and Reason” and the topic of Discernment. Both were great! The lectures on pastoral ministry and public speaking were spot on as well. We visited a “L’Arche which means “The Ark” out in Tacoma. It was a reminder that the often marginalized few are forgotten but through generosity and loving hearts, people give them a place to be all they can be. I truly feel blessed to have been able to visit and hear their story.
In other news, in the Archdioceses of Seattle, there were 5 new Deacons ordained. We were provided a rare opportunity to see them make both their oath of fidelity and profession of faith during our morning prayers. After witnessing that, I just had to follow-up this experience by accepting the invitation to their Rite of Ordination this last Saturday. I took many pictures, but perhaps the most touching was the Litany and the most inspirational, was the welcoming of the new Deacons into the Order of Deacons by their brothers.
We have another Formation weekend with lectures, then Syntheis weekend in June. Lots to ponder, so the whole class can use your continued prayers.
Thank you to all those following my journey. As this 1st year comes to an end, pray that my journey leads onto the path of Candidacy.
Peace.

Already the 3rd week. This month, for our formation weekend, it’s really a retreat. We’re all heading down to the Mount Angel Abbey for our annual Lenten Retreat. I am very excited and anxious to pray the early morning prayers with the Monks. It will be a weekend of discernment, pondering God’s call and whether I continue to answer that call.
Please pray for our Deacon Class. We need your prayers, love and encouragement.
Thank you!
